Climate change: Heatwave made up to 3C hotter by warming
The searing July heatwave that hit Europe last week was made both more likely and more intense by human-induced climate change, scientists say.
A rapid attribution study says that heating added up to 3C to the intensity of the event that scorched the UK, France and the Netherlands.
The heatwave was made at least 10 times and up to 100 times more likely by human activities.
This new report looks at the July heatwave that saw temperatures soar above 40C in many countries including Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
Violin

Tsunami fears after quake off coast of Indonesia
Indonesia's authorities have urged people living near the coast to move to higher ground after a powerful earthquake off the island of Java.
Officials said the quake, estimated by US monitors at magnitude 6.9, had the potential to generate a tsunami.

Common daisy
Bellis perennis is a common European species of daisy, of the family Asteraceae, often considered the archetypal species of that name. Many related plants also share the name "daisy", so to distinguish this species from other daisies it is sometimes qualified as common daisy, lawn daisy or English daisy. Wikipedia
Blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus)
The blue tit is a resident breeding bird and has a similar diet to other birds in winter, favouring seeds and fats.
Famously, blue tits have been known to tap through the foil lids of freshly delivered doorstep milk to snatch a free meal.
Ivy (Vertically centred text )
Ivy is a woody stemmed, self-clinging climber that can grow quickly to cover fences, walls and buildings. It is a cause for concern owing to its rapid pace of growth and worries about potential damage to the support structure.
On level ground they remain creeping, not exceeding 5–20 cm height, but on suitable surfaces for climbing, including trees, natural rock outcrops or man-made structures such as quarry rock faces or built masonry and woodenstructures, they can climb to at least 30 m above the ground.
Schalow's turaco
These birds are light for a turaco species; weighing just over half a pound (270g), with a length of 15 to 17 inches. Their colour is a coppery-jade green that fades to a dark iridescent blue the closer you get towards the tail. They have long white tripped crests with small red beaks and red skin around their dark eyes lined with white feathers. Mature birds have, on average, the longest crests of any turaco species. Their wings are short and round with red flight feathers meant for short flights
Ash
Ash trees are a staple of the British countryside. They grow to around 30ft and their roots travel deep and wide (up to 60ft!). They are an integral part of the ecosystem and their leaves often provide food for grazers and rabbits. The lifespan of the Ash tree depends on its species, with some living for as long as 300 years.

Waltham Windmill is a six-sailed windmill located in the village of Waltham, five miles from Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire, England. Poplar Fieldcap
The cap starts round and smooth, becoming flat and wrinkled as it expands, sometimes cracking in sunny weather.
The young small buttons have a chestnut brown cap that can be as small as 1cm. As they grow the cap becomes light brown to pale cream, slightly darker in the center. The size usually varies from 4cm to 10cm but may reach 15cm.
